Why I Wrote Splinters and Seams

By

Some things take more time than we’d expect. And… some wounds don’t heal this side of heaven.” – Splinters and Seams

Splinters and Seams was born out of this idea: that sometimes we feel as though if our faith was only strong enough, if our relationship with God was solid enough, the struggles in our life would start to fade completely. We’d like to think that our struggles with sin, our regret over past choices, the impact of physical pain or mental illness, should vanish. But that’s not what we’re promised.

Lucy can’t understand why, after years of praying for God to deliver her from the flashbacks and anxiety, she can’t shake the effects of the trauma of her first five years of life, the scars that not only mar her arms but are imprinted on her heart.

As she uncovers the stories of the past three generations that lived in the Jensen household, she realizes she isn’t alone in this battle between earthly struggles and heavenly joy and peace.

Jesus promises in John 16:33, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

I hope that Lucy’s story is an encouragement to you as you walk through the trials and struggles in your own life. That even in the midst of scars and strife, Jesus walks with you. That as you trust in Him, in Him you may find peace and joy, in spite of your circumstances. That He is working all things together for our good.
